It's the flagship symbol of Avignon, you've definitely heard of it, even if you didn't know where Avignon was on a map. We even made a song about it! We'll tell you more about the famous Saint-Bénézet bridge, commonly called the Avignon bridge.

Built in the 12th century, this medieval bridge was once an essential crossing point on the Rhône, connecting Avignon to Villeneuve lez Avignon. Today, four of the original twenty-two stone arches still standExploring the Pont d'Avignon is like taking a journey through time to discover the relics of this imposing construction, listed UNESCO World Heritage since 1995.

Did you know?

The song “On the bridge of Avignon”, often perceived as an ancient work, was actually created in the middle of the 19th century. Composed by Adolphe Adam, it was first performed in 1853 at the Opéra Comique in Paris, during the play “The Deaf Man, or The Full Inn”.
