Between the Palais des Papes and the Philippe Le Bel Tower, which in the 21th century was joined by the famous Pont d'Avignon with its XNUMX arches, Barthelasse is the largest river island with a soil of sand and silt suitable for growing exceptional fruits.
It was there, in the 40s, that Claude Manguin, a talented agronomist, planted and cultivated several dozen hectares of pear and peach trees and supplied fruit to the most renowned delicatessens, including FAUCHON.
Since 1949, the Manguin Distillery has been perpetuating the know-how of the MANGUIN house by distilling local fruits (pears, olives, apricots, greengage) and creating innovative spirits such as CARAXES, the pear and rum blend and OLI'GIN, the olive gin!
In 1957, the Charente stills began to distill the fruit and “La Poire Manguin” became the house’s flagship brandy, found on the finest tables in France and elsewhere.
Since 2011, Béatrice and Emmanuel Hanquiez, the new owners, driven by a passion for quintessence, have perpetuated the house's expertise and created excellent spirits and now a range with distilled olives, including Oli Gin, the olive gin.
