La colline des Mourgues

A 7-hectare, wooded, enclosed estate in the heart of the historic center. A place for walks for young and old, the hill offers rest areas, playgrounds, and an open-air theater. Magnificent views of Villeneuve lez Avignon and Avignon.
In this former religious property remain the remains of the Petite Chartreuse, a hermitage where Father Crouzet-Lacombe, the last Carthusian monk of Villeneuve after the Revolution, lived. You can see the tomb he had built into the rock. The Notre-Dame de Consolation chapel, at the highest point, was decorated with frescoes by Albert Martin, illustrating the traditional Saint Mark's Day festival linked to vines and wine.

Entrances via rue Montée de la Tour (Porte Paul de La Boulaye) and rue Montolivet (behind the school).
