The keep of a fortress built in the 13th century by the King of France, at the end of the famous Avignon bridge whose access it controlled, the Philippe-le-Bel Tower dominates all of Provence thanks to an exceptional panoramic view of Villeneuve lez Avignon, Avignon and the Rhone Valley.
The tower has beautiful vaulted rooms and a permanent museum space called “Tower Memories”.
The exhibition covers the following themes: The figure of King Philip the Fair; The Avignon territory around the Rhône, from the Carolingian era to the French Revolution; The construction of a bridge in the medieval period; The discovery of the Avignon bridge in 3D in its landscape, at different times.
These four major themes are translated into French and English.
Awarded the "Accueil Vélo" (Cyclist Welcome) label, the Philippe le Bel Tower offers a welcoming environment for cyclists in the immediate vicinity of the ViaRhôna cycle route. Bicycle parking is available, and an information point helps direct visitors to useful services and local routes. An ideal cultural stop for a break during your journey.
