Tour des Templiers

This tower is one of the only remains still visible today of an ancient castle (castrum) which included dwellings, outbuildings and an old chapel.
The Templar Tower is open during Heritage Days.
Completely renovated in 2006 after fourteen years of piecemeal work, this 20 m square tower (which never had any connection with the Templar order) standing in the heart of the town is the remains of the Château Vieux. The building, probably built in the XNUMXth or XNUMXth century, was remodeled several times in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries: two floors were added, as well as the battlements.

According to the department's archaeological service, this tower is one of the only remains still visible today of an ancient castle (castrum) which included dwellings, outbuildings and an old chapel. It is very likely that it was the Ancézune family, lords of Entraigues in the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century, who initiated the construction of this tower. If this tower could have served as a defensive point in the event of an attack or even as a storage facility for cereals taken from the peasants, it is certain that the rooms are too narrow to have been used as a seigneurial dwelling.

The tower can be visited and offers a panorama of Mont Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail and the Vaucluse mountains.
