A 19th century religious building, this synagogue has the particularity of having a central plan and thus breaks with the Judeo-Comtat tradition.
A centuries-old Jewish community in Avignon, the former ghetto was located in the upper part of what is now the Balance district. The current synagogue was built between 1846 and 1848 to plans by the architect Joffroy, replacing the old building destroyed by fire in 1845.
By its central plan, its interior sobriety and its arrangements it breaks with the Judeo-Comtat tradition.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. excluding religious holidays.
Outside of these hours, visits are possible by appointment: 04 90 85 21 24 or 06 82 14 51 22 or contact@aci-avignon.com
