The city's largest park, covering six hectares, is located outside the city walls in the Pont des Deux Eaux district.
Fitness trail, football pitch, running path, children's playground, wide open spaces, lawns and groves make this park a green lung for many residents.
In 2020, thanks to the city's participatory budget called "La Ruche", a treetop adventure park with a zip line was created, much to the delight of children. In 2018, a platform was built between the trees, which can accommodate children and parents for reading or relaxation, a true haven of peace. http://www.avignon.fr/fr/democratie-participative/budget-participatif-2020/
Birthdays or get-togethers with friends are organized in the park, tables and deckchairs are provided.
Teenagers prefer to have fun on the "bowl": a skate track where they perform tricks and laughs.
The fishermen set up camp along the Canal de l'Hôpital, which crosses the park.
Others prefer the bowling alley, located next to a magnificent avenue of century-old plane trees.
In short, ideal for a moment of family togetherness!
Chico Mendes Park can be reached safely from the city center on foot or by bike via the Chemin des Canaux!
Greenway linking the city walls to Montfavet, which is the creation of a soft transport link along the banks of the Vaucluse Canal. https://avignon-tourisme.com/activites/le-chemin-des-canaux/
Why was the park named Chico Mendes Park?
Francisco Alves Mendes Filho, known as Chico Mendes, was the most well-known Brazilian trade union leader and activist who defended the rights of workers collecting latex in the rubber plantations of the Amazon.
Chico Mendes became and remains a symbol of the defense of the Amazon and, more generally, of the environment and sustainable development. As such, his name has been given to numerous sites and infrastructures in France.
A special mention for the Cani'Parc, a dedicated space where dogs can romp and play freely under the watchful eye of their owners.
