Museum Requien – Musée d'Histoire Naturelle
The Requien Museum owes its name to its creator, Esprit Requien (1788–1851), who bequeathed his collections and library to the Calvet Museum in 1840. Esprit Requien devoted himself early on to botany, then to malacology and paleontology.
Since 1943, the museum has been housed in the 18th-century Hôtel Raphélis in Soissans, which adjoins the Calvet Museum. With over 1,2 million specimens, it is one of the largest natural history museums in the region. It regularly hosts exhibitions and also houses a large study library and reserves accessible only to researchers.
Ideal for families: from the stuffed tiger presented at the entrance to the tyrannosaurus jaw exhibited in one of the rooms dedicated to prehistoric remains, from the wolf's head found at the end of the 19th century on the foothills of Ventoux to the beaver from the island of Barthelasse presented in a display case: a visit to the Requien Museum is a source of enrichment for everyone, from the oldest to the youngest.
Throughout the year, the museum offers numerous events for families and young people.
IH: The ground floor of the museum is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
