Moulin Chiron

Located on the plateau of La Vierge in Pujaut, the mill offers a remarkable panorama of the village and its surroundings. A place for walking and relaxation, equipped with a water point and a picnic area, it also hosts cultural events.

Located on the heights of Pujaut, in the heart of the Plateau de la Vierge, the mill overlooks the village and offers exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. A true hub of activity and leisure, it attracts walkers, athletes, and nature lovers, drawn to its peaceful and bucolic setting, ideal for picnics. The site is equipped with a water feature, as well as a picnic table and benches, making it easy for visitors to enjoy.
This iconic location, well-known to locals, also hosts cultural events. Notably, in 2023, it was the venue for the first performance of the Avignon Festival held in Pujaut.
Formerly known as "Moulin Coulon," after its last private owner before its acquisition by the municipality in 2001, the mill dates back to the late 18th century. It was built around 1775 and operated for flour production until the end of the 19th century. Its operation relied on the action of the wind, particularly the mistral, which turned its sails and powered the millstone used to grind the grain.
The place name "Les Moulins" recalls that a second mill once existed nearby, now gone. At the time, the site was completely open, allowing the winds to blow strongly and ensuring the optimal operation of the machinery.
Today, the Pujaut mill remains an essential heritage, landscape and cultural site in the region, offering a space for discovery, relaxation and conviviality.
