The Church of St. Peter in Chains was rebuilt in 1840, on the site of the original church, Our Lady of Sorrows: the latter was located behind the bell tower (which dates from the 7th and XNUMXth centuries) and oriented East-West, while the current building is oriented North-South.
Some of the stones used in the construction of the current church came either from the original church or from the Chapel of the Grey Penitents, as evidenced by the traces of plaster and the marks of the stonemasons. Subsequently, as the population increased, the place of worship was enlarged on one side of the side chapels. A gallery was planned above the entrance door but it could not be built.
What characterizes this church is the unity of its late 19th century decor: with its statues, including that of St Roch, whose cult is very present in our region, the imposing walnut pulpit, the testimony of the passage of the brotherhood of the Grey Penitents, whose chapel was located on the site of the current MJC, the paintings, some of which come from the Avignon seminary.
It is regrettable that the 1960th century high altar and part of the church's exterior pediment have disappeared, collapsing in the XNUMXs, destroying the statue of the Virgin that adorned it.
After eight years of work, it was completely renovated in 2006.
