La Fontaine de l'Ange

The major water supply works began in 1821 with the creation of the fountain located opposite the Saint Joseph chapel (only the pediment is original).
In 1838, the construction of the Pousqueyras communal well followed, which had only one bucket. In 1855, construction of the current washhouse began. A water pipe would feed it from the Pousqueyras well.
In 1861, a second spring was discovered near the Vaujus spring. It would supply water to the so-called Angel Fountain. But it was only in 1873 that the water distribution system for the village's 11 fountains was reinforced by inserting a 2,50 m stone column between the base and the pedestal of the statue. This ingenious distribution device would also allow the flow to be increased in the event of a fire. The work was completed in 1874. Rochefort was now safe from need.
The fountain was demolished by decision of the municipal council in 1964, when the town's water began to supply the village's homes. Its reconstruction was the work of the Aigo y font association, chaired by Claude Gizard.
