Historical site and monument

à Villeneuve-lez-Avignon

Fort Saint-André

A national monument, Fort Saint-André was built to assert the power of the Kingdom of France against the papacy established in Avignon. It constitutes a significant ensemble of French military architecture of the 14th century.

Overlooking the entire city, with a unique panorama overlooking the Rhône Valley and Provence, it is an exceptional site.

The strategic location of Fort Saint-André allows, from its patrol path, to enjoy a 360° panorama of Mont Ventoux, the Rhône Valley, Avignon and the Alpilles. During the visit, you will discover the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame de Belvezet, and the important defensive enclosure with the Tour des Masques and the twin towers.
