Chapelle Sainte-Claire

Formerly dedicated to Saint Clare of Assisi, this former 14th-century chapel is now attached to the Théâtre des Halles and used as a performance hall.
The location of this convent and the remains of its church allow us to evoke one of the most famous literary memories of the city.
Indeed, it was here that Petrarch, the illustrious Italian humanist writer who bore witness to the papal Avignon, saw Laura de Noves for the first time. This event was of capital importance for this Romantic poet before his time, who, throughout his life, never ceased to versify on the grace and beauty of Laura.
