When the temperatures rise and the cicadas are heard again, there's nothing like a good picnic in the shade of the trees or by the water! Here are our favorite spots to lay down your tablecloth.
01
Barthelasse Island – Avignon
Just a stone's throw from Avignon, Barthelasse Island is a true haven of freshness. Shaded and peaceful, it offers a breathtaking view of the Palais des Papes from the sea wall. Enjoy a picnic on the banks of the Rhône, surrounded by poplars, to the sound of birds and passing cyclists. Bonus: large landscaped areas and a playground for children.
02
Miémart Island – Roquemaure
This little-known island offers a small corner of unspoiled nature, overlooking the square tower. Uncrowded, it's ideal for quiet picnics by the water. Bring your blanket if you want to be closer to the water; otherwise, you'll find picnic tables nearby.
03
Velleron, between canal and freshness
In Velleron, the Carpentras Canal winds through the landscape. Around a path, you'll find pretty shaded spots where you can rest your basket, lulled by the lapping of the water. A simple, natural place, perfect for the little joys of summer.
04
Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon – On the banks of the Sorgue
Below the village, to the right after the washhouse, the path that runs alongside the Sorgue offers a lovely, cool stroll. You can picnic there by the river, under the trees, in a peaceful, bucolic atmosphere. Ideal for early evening when the light turns golden.
05
Entraigues-sur-la-Sorgue – Tables by the water
Fancy a more comfortable picnic? Head to Entraigues and its areas equipped with tables, benches, and shade, along the fitness trail. Come with family or friends for a hassle-free lunch before a digestive stroll along the Sorgue.
Whether by the canal, on a quiet island, or in a landscaped area, these places offer a true natural escape just a stone's throw from the city. All you need is a little shade, carefully selected local produce... and good friends for the magic to happen. Enjoy naps in the shade and snacks by the water!
