Discovering the Pont du Gard

The Pont du Gard is an exceptional example of bridges built in the ancient world. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the most grandiose part of a Roman aqueduct that carried water from Uzès to Nîmes. Built in the 1st century AD, it represented an exceptional technical feat for the time.

Discovery spaces

Let's continue our tour with one of the largest interpretation centers of Roman engineering. We highly recommend taking the time to dive into the heart of Roman civilization.

The Pont du Gard Museum

This journey through time allows visitors to better understand the importance of water in the city and the reasons for the construction of such an aqueduct. A reconstruction of this colossal project allows visitors to understand the ingenuity of this civilization.

The Ludo area for children

For families, this place dedicated to children aged 5 to 12 will allow them to approach themes such as Romanity, nature, the use of water, etc. in a fun way.

The Pont du Gard cinema

This 12-minute documentary film traces the 2000-year history of the Pont du Gard through images and other illustrations.

An exceptional natural space

In the heart of the scrubland, the Pont du Gard site is the ideal place to walk and discover unspoiled nature and protected historical heritage.

The trail of remains

This 1- to 2-hour walk follows a path that runs along both banks. A series of archways and small bridges allow you to glimpse the outline of the structure, which is largely buried.

Memoires de Garrigue

To better understand how man has shaped this landscape over the centuries, we offer you this short poetic stroll in the heart of the scrubland of around 1 hour.

A break by the water

For a picnic break or simply a nap, this is the ideal place! In summer, the banks take on the appearance of beaches and become a true haven of freshness and peace. You will enjoy a little swim in the Gardon (we recommend the “official” beach which is located on its right bank).

How to get there ?

To get there, we recommend taking the Lio bus, line 115, from the Avignon Multimodal Exchange Center (located 200 meters from the central train station). The closest stop to the Pont du Gard is the "Rond-Point du Pont du Gard (Bus Station) 30210 Vers-Pont-du-Gard" stop. It will take you about ten minutes on foot to reach the Pont du Gard site.
Good to know: The Pont du Gard site is entirely pedestrian and freely accessible for those arriving on foot (parking, admission to the discovery areas and guided tours and workshops are chargeable). Access to these areas is free for those under 18.
