We'll take you on a journey of discovery through Nîmes, a city with a glorious past told through its monuments. From antiquity to the present day, we'll embark on a journey through time for a day on foot.
01
The Arena
Let's start with the most emblematic place in Nîmes: the Arena! Just a few steps from the train station, you'll reach the heart of the city. There you'll find the best-preserved Roman amphitheater in the world, built only about twenty years after the Colosseum in Rome. From the end of the 1st century AD, it hosted wild animal hunts and gladiatorial combats. Today, many events take place there.
02
Maison Carree
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Maison Carrée is arguably the best-preserved Roman temple in the world. Although it is rectangular in shape, the Maison Carrée is so named because at the time of its construction, a rectangle was referred to as a “long square".
03
The Magne Tower
This tower is the most beautiful viewpoint over the city and its surroundings. The Roman wall originally consisted of a group of 80 such towers. Today, the Magne Tower is the only remaining vestige.

The Museum of Romanity
With its modern appearance, this museum is fully part of a new generation of interactive museums. Thanks to numerous multimedia features, you can immerse yourself in the collections with a new perspective on Roman Nîmes.
