Description
If since the installation of the popes in Avignon in the 14th century, private gardens have accompanied the construction of aristocratic residences, it was not until the 17th century and more particularly the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 20th century that public promenades and gardens developed.
Today, nature is in the city beyond gardens; the imagination of residents and the support of the municipality have allowed the development of nature at the foot of buildings, in the planters, which adorn the protective barriers.
In this journey, the diversity of the gardens, their history, and their botanical richness give an original image of nature in the city. A sort of green framework, from garden to garden, reinforced by the plantings in the squares, streets, and private gardens.
