A winning project of the 2017 participatory budget, the Canal Puy route offers a cultural and heritage tour of the Green Belt and more specifically the Canal Puy.
Route details
Description
4 routes punctuated with attractive panels, evoking this hydraulic structure, its components and the agricultural tradition around this Avignon green belt, accompanied by an exhibition on the history of its agriculture in the Notre Dame mill.
This project was proposed by the association Le Moulin Notre Dame, with the aim of highlighting the site and its history, in particular the 8 small bridges spanning the canal, during a walk or cycle ride along the water in the Green Belt.
The course :
Commissioned in 1810 after 4 years of work, the Puy Canal was built on the initiative of Mr. Guillaume Puy, mayor of Avignon between 1795 and 1815. Its objective: to divert water from the Durance to fertilize the riverside lands. During a stroll along the Puy Canal and the Durance, members of the Association le Moulin de Notre Dame accompany you to discover the landscapes and agriculture, between yesterday and today, in a green belt.
We will also discover the panels recently installed as part of the participatory budget along the canal to present the small heritage built to serve the irrigation of market garden land.
The panels offer four routes of different lengths with contrasting universes: tree-lined paths to discover the small agricultural heritage, a detour via the green cries path, an extension towards the old water intake, an unusual detour between rural remains and contemporary industry.
– Route 1: Tree-lined paths to discover the small agricultural heritage – Distance: 5.8 km – Walking time: 1h30.
– Route 2: Detour via the Chemin des Cris Verts and the Saint-Gabriel chapel – Distance: 2.5 km – Walking time: 40 min.
– Route 3: Extension towards the Grande Martelière – Distance: 2.8 km – Walking time: 40 min.
– Route 4: Unusual detour between rural remains and contemporary industry – Distance: 6.3 km – Walking time: 1 hour 40 minutes.
