Route details
Description
The Canal Path, a greenway linking the city walls to Montfavet, is the creation of a soft transport link along the banks of the Vaucluse Canal.
Water, canals, and canals are fundamental elements of Avignon's heritage. The canal system has forged the region's landscape and economic identity, as well as its prosperity.
The Vaucluse Canal was used to drain the marshy areas of the Sorgue plain, thus promoting the creation of new land for agriculture. It flows from the Thor to the Rhône via Avignon.
The canals have therefore brought wealth and prosperity to our territory for 10 centuries and have forged its identity over time.
Distance: approximately 8 km (round trip)
Duration: 30 mn
Difficulty: Very easy – wide cycle path along the ramparts, greenway following the provisional route of the Via Rhôna from the Chemin de l’Epi.
