Discover the Abbey Plain along the water
Route details
Description
Start from the Philippe le Bel Tower. Across the road is the Vieux Moulin district, one of the city's most picturesque.
Under the Tower, turn left onto the cycle path, then, on the right, follow the cycle markings “3055” to take a narrow path after a hedge of thuja trees which joins the Chemin des Castors.
You follow the counter-canal, in the Abbey plain.
Dedicated to agriculture, it has been preserved from urbanization because it is subject to flooding from the Rhône.
Since the major development work on the river (1970), it has been protected by a dike.
On the left at the barrier, take Chemin de la Savoye then further on to the right, for 400 m, Chemin de l'Avion and turn left to reach Place Charles David.
Above the square, Rue des Récollets leads to the Tourist Office. It owes its name to the Franciscan monks who lived here from 1618 to 1792. Their vast convent is still clearly visible, although the facade of its chapel is hidden by a modern house.
