Description

Distance: 5,5 km
Difficulty: easy, flat, car-free walk
Duration: 1h30
Audience: Families / Discovery

The outward journey:
– From the Porte de l'Oulle, you reach the banks of the Rhône at the location of the large boats. From there, a greenway runs along the Rhône on one side, and the northern ring road on the other – until the entrance to the Courtine area: this is the Oulle-Confluence Greenway. This project by the City of Avignon will be completed in spring 2023. It connects the historic center to the future Confluence Urban Natural Park, over 5km*

– About 10 minutes after the start, you arrive at the intersection between the Rocade Nord and the path towards the confluence: continue on the greenway by following the Route du Confluent on the right. From there, the greenway continues, it is signposted to the tip of the Confluence. You quickly find yourself in the middle of nature, between the Rhône and the fields!

– When you arrive at the site, the greenway turns into a dirt and gravel path: for city bikes, you must then continue on foot (2 to 3 minutes) to the tip of the confluence where you can admire the waters of the Durance (on the left) and the Rhône (on the right) which join. From there, you can see on the right the Château des Issarts – a private estate in the commune of Les Angles. In spring, the banks of the tip are dotted with broom. Many Mediterranean plants, some of which are rarely seen elsewhere, grow there. Depending on the season, you can see representatives of the local fauna:

The natural environment of the confluence presents great ecological richness with several habitats and species of community interest.
Together let’s preserve this natural space!
The keys and good gestures:
I take all my rubbish with me and don't throw it in the water.
My 4-legged companion is welcome, on a leash
I stay on the marked paths and do not go into areas populated by plants.
I respect the work of the people who maintain the canals and I do not pick in the fields or on the edges of the roads.
I respect wildlife
Thank you for your commitment!

The return :
The return route takes us back to the city center of Avignon: when we return to the level of the Rocade Nord via the Chemin de Confluence, a variant allows us to reach the city center via a road developed by the city of Avignon: we then cross the Rocade Nord and head towards the city center for barely 10 meters, then turn right to find ourselves on the Chemin de Rochegude.
This recently developed route runs alongside the Champfleury Canal and provides a peaceful way to reach the suburbs of Avignon: in just 10 minutes you will be on Avenue Eisenhower, opposite the FabrikA.
Our suggestion to end this walk: stop at Tipi, Avignon's urban farm, located next to FabrikA.
Starting March 1st, the CLAUDE urban nursery is launching its plant sale!
Throughout the spring, vegetable plants will be sold directly from the urban farm Le Tipi.
A wide variety of Provençal vegetables, flowers, and aromatic plants. There are no fewer than 175 varieties of plants in total!
You can then easily reach the ramparts via Eisenhower Avenue, making a detour via the Saint Joseph Travailleur church, a parish church with modern architecture built in the second half of the 5th century and located at XNUMX Rue Paul Achard.

Good to know:
The Walk is also available to hikers: the mini topoguide published by Apare-CME – Confluence Zone Trail, mythical meeting of the main river and the capricious Durance, is available on the Tourist Office website.
