As a lover of art and culture, I love visiting iconic locations in Grand Avignon to explore the region's most captivating exhibitions. Today, I'm sharing three major events that offer a fascinating journey through history, nature, and artistic expression.

Between art and nature in the Abbey gardens – “Traits de plume” exhibition by Patrick di Meglio

From June 5 to September 1, 2024, at Abbey gardens, Villeneuve lez Avignon

In this exhibition, I discovered the artist Patrick di Meglio, whose work is as original as it is intriguing. A unique visual artist, he found in the bird feathers a unique material for creating captivating works of art. The exhibition “Feather Strokes” offers a journey through his large-scale creations, where hundreds of feathers of various species are transformed into elements of a new visual calligraphy.

A unique artistic technique

Patrick di Meglio collects feathers from storks, gulls, buzzards, seagulls, woodcocks, peacocks, and many other birds. He meticulously strips these feathers, delicately removing beards and barbules, burning off their down to leave only the perfectly polished rachis. I found that this meticulous work offered incredible contrasts between the velvety softness of the feathers and their sharp appearance. The compositions are simply astonishing!

A visual symphony

The artist's works are not just simple feather arrangements. In fact, Patrick di Meglio combines them with materials like slate, metal and wood, he composes symphonies with low notes, serene or joyful, but always original. As I wandered from room to room, it was as if a story was being told to me, I felt invited to reflection and wonder.

An enchanting place

The Abbey gardens, a place that I find extremely beautiful Villeneuve lez Avignon, with its shaded paths and lush green spaces, offers a sumptuous to this exhibition. The artist's works blend harmoniously into this natural environment, creating a true osmosis between art and nature. The installation, in the monks' former kitchen, offers a variety of media: paintings, hangings, and sculptures.

A fun visit to learn more about the Rhône with the exhibition: “A fort, a river, the Rhône” at Fort St André

From June 13 to November 3, 2024, at Fort Saint André, Villeneuve lez Avignon

Did you know? There was a time when the Rhone passed just below Fort Saint André! If, like me, you are fond of this kind of anecdote, I invite you to take part in the fun tour of the exhibition at Fort Saint Andre “A fort, A river, the Rhône”. Through this exhibition, we are taken on a total immersion in the history, geography and ecological issues of this iconic river of the territory.

The Rhône and Fort Saint André, a linked history

The choice of this exhibition within the fort is not insignificant. Indeed, built in the 14th century, it owes its existence to the presence of the river that flowed at the foot of Mount Andaon. The Rhône, at once natural border et passageway has always been a crucial element for the inhabitants of the region. It has shaped not only the landscape but also their way of life.

“Cara-Garanjoud” paintings at the Chartreuse

From June 30 to September 22, 2024, at the Chartreuse, Villeneuve lez Avignon

Chartreuse celebrates its 51st Summer Meeting(s) from June 30 to July 20, 2024, honoring two fascinating artists, Louise Cara and Claude Garanjoud. This cross-exposure explores the themes of light and shadow, black and white, offering a deep visual and emotional experience.

Two artists, two complementary visions

Louise Cara et Claude Garanjoud, although different in their artistic approach, reveal similarities of expression and a common spirituality. Their creations, using mainly ink, respond to each other in a pictorial dialogue inspired by the poetry of the Orient and the Far East. On the one hand, Claude Garanjoud presents free canvases in shades of ultramarine blue and inks/ring porticos on paper, while Louise Cara unveils for the first time her “Tracés de lumière”, large-format works on canvas and paper, created with Japanese black ink or slate pigment.

La Chartreuse, an exceptional exhibition space

Chartreuse, a historic site and renowned cultural center, offers a exceptional for this exhibition. The centuries-old walls and serene spaces of the Chartreuse add a mystical dimension to the works on display, reinforcing the visual and emotional impact of each piece. The juxtaposition of Cara and Garanjoud's works in this unique space allows for a rich interaction between art and architecture, between past and present
