So beautiful
Discovering the historic center
We recommend starting your visit to Roquemaure with a short stroll through the old town centre to admire the town hall square, the collegiate church, the castle and the toll tower.
01
The Chapel of Saint Joseph of the Fields
First stop, Saint-Joseph Chapel the fields, built in the 12th century.
It was subsequently remodeled in the 18th and XNUMXth centuries, incorporating the original chapel. In the center of the old gate, the Romanesque arch is there to testify to this. And if you are ever lucky enough to be in Roquemaure on March XNUMX, you can attend a mass given for Saint Joseph.
02
The Collegiate
We continue with this southern Gothic building constructed in the 14th century in the King's Garden, outside the ramparts. The Collegiate Church served as a fortress, and its bell tower was originally a watchtower.
Its imposing appearance, reinforced by buttresses, contrasts with its slender interior. It contains listed organs and the relics of Saint Valentine.
03
The town hall and its square
Originally the residence of a nobleman, the building became the town hall of Roquemaure in 1851. With its square, they form a remarkable architectural ensemble from the XNUMXth century, protected as a Historic Monument, with its medieval arcades and its “false blind” fountain.
04
The castle and the toll wall
The Rhône, a natural border between France and the German Empire in the Middle Ages, made Roquemaure a strategic toll and defense site. Its castle on the rock controlled the passage of salt and the river, serving for centuries as a toll for the king. The 12th-century Square Tower and the Round Tower, the "Queen's Tower," can still be seen there.
05
The Priory of Truel
Above the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa, this ancient Romanesque chapel stands. It was built in the 12th century and takes its name from the Latin "torculum," meaning wine press, as one once stood on this site. While you can observe this priory from the outside, it is only open to the public during special events.

And to make sure you don't miss anything in this beautiful village, we suggest you download the discovery plan “Explore ROQUEMAURE”:
so nature
Remarkable spaces
The Rhône River has played a decisive role in the town of Roquemaure. It has shaped its landscape and wine-growing region. We invite you to explore these peaceful natural spots.

The Winegrowers' Plateau
Explore this territory made up of 5 grape varieties : Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre for red wine, white Clairette and Viognier for white wine.
You will tread there a soil naturally rich in iron, which gives it its distinctive ochre color.

Caderache Massif
For those who want to have a superb 360° view on Mont-Ventoux, the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Château de l'Hers and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we recommend a short detour to Roc Trouca. It is located on the Caderache plateau, which resembles an "arrowhead" between the towns of Roquemaure and Pujaut. You will appreciate the freshness provided by Aleppo pines and holm oaks.
Miémart Island
Located north of the town centre of Roquemaure, this so-called "alluvial" island was formed by successive sedimentary deposits from the Rhône. Miémart Island is cultivated in market gardening and viticulture, and has on its banks, a rich riparian forest classified Natura 2000.

It's party !
To immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Roquemaure, what could be better than taking part in the festivities that punctuate the life of the city?

Valentine's Day
In 1868, a wealthy landowner Roquemaure bought, in Rome, the Relics of Saint Valentine, to protect the vines, affected by Phylloxera. The transport of the Relics of Saint Valentine took place on Sunday, October 25, 1868, in the presence of an immense crowd. Since 1868, Valentine has watched over this region on the right bank of the Rhône, over its inhabitants, united in the same love or the same friendship and over these vineyards famous for centuries. The city pays homage to him with the " Poutoun Festo » (literally the kissing festival).
This colorful festival honors the history of Roquemaure, as well as its art of living, its shows, its music and, of course, his love! A little patience all the same, this party taking place every two years, you will have to wait until 2025 for its next edition.

A Festive Air
A " air de fete ", it is an opportunity to discover and celebrate the local initiatives in favor of nature protection and biodiversity. This festival brings together and promotes local associations, local producers and artisans. Soft modes of transport and waste reduction are widely encouraged.
An event that is good for you and the planet, and what's more it's free !

Food Truck Night
For a musical and gourmet evening, find the food trucks, all Fridays from mid-May to mid-Mayi-September, from 19pm. On the Town Hall Square, you will be able to listen to live music while tasting all kinds of dishes from world cuisine. And of course the wineries are part of it!
so good
Vines and cheeses
If you're looking for Roquemaure producers, you're sure to find winemakers along the way. Due to its privileged geographical location, it's a key location in the history of the Côtes-du-Rhône region. It even seems that Roquemaure is the place of origin of the appellation! But we should not neglect the other riches present in this village of Provence! If you like goat cheeses from the South (also called “pélardons”) and the fine wine, you will be served!

Emilie Goat Farm
La Emilie's goat farm raise in Roquemaure 130 Alpine goats chamois and Gascon pigs. Here, the goats graze all year round on Natural grasslands and in organic vines grassed during the winter. The pigs are fed exclusively on whey from cheese production, fruits, vegetables and cereals.
