An installation invites visitors to immerse themselves in the visual world of Valère Novarina. Alongside the blue neon of La Lumière nuit (1988), 50 drawings are presented, including 27 from an Untitled series (1988) and 23 from the series Les figures pauvres (1993).
Photographs of Valère Novarina taken by Fernand Michaux (BnF collection) and of his stage productions performed in Avignon (BnF collection) will complete this tribute.
In January 2026, the world of theatre lost Valère Novarina, one of the greatest and most singular authors in the French language. Franco-Swiss, director, essayist, painter and lover of words, he marked half a century of creation at the crossroads of theatre, poetry and research.
Invited to participate in the programming of eleven editions of the Avignon Festival (from 1986 to 2020, an edition which was cancelled), his work is among the finest pages in the history of the Festival.
To pay tribute to him and share his world with all audiences, the Maison Jean Vilar, in partnership with the National Library of France and the Avignon Festival, offers a joyful and polyphonic event, reflecting the image of the artist.
