A medieval town linked to the Rhône River, the papacy, and the kings of France, nestled between Mount Andaon and the Mourgues hill, Villeneuve developed from the 10th century onwards around the Abbey of Saint-André. Its exceptional heritage, both secular (Fort Saint-André and the Philippe le Bel Tower) and religious (the abbey, the Carthusian monastery, and the Collegiate Church), has inspired artists, most notably Enguerrand Quarton, whose altarpiece of the Coronation of the Virgin already evokes elements of Villeneuve. From the 15th to the 20th centuries, this exhibition invites you on a journey through time, tracing the landscapes of Villeneuve, from William Marlow to Joseph Meissonnier, including the Provençal masters.
