Palais des Papes place du Palais 84000 Avignon

Guided and/or commented tour, Initiation/discovery as part of an event

Avignon Tourism offers families the opportunity to discover the richness of medieval art through its forms, colours and imaginary creatures.
From 6 years.

Explore sculpture, painting, and stained glass to understand how medieval artists brought the sacred, the wondrous, and the everyday to life. Extend this immersive experience with a workshop where each child creates their own chimera.

Discovery trail:
1. Medieval sculptures
Observation of capitals, gargoyles and symbolic figures. Discovery of the sculptor's gestures, tools, materials and hidden messages in the forms.
2. The secrets of painting
Exploring medieval colours: natural pigments, binders, fresco techniques. Analyzing images to understand how artists told stories without words.
3. The magic of stained glass
Contemplating the interplay of light. Explanation of the role of stained glass in architecture and the manufacturing of colored glass.
