As our country has entered a period of great turbulence, Franz-Olivier Giesbert, to conclude his Intimate History of the Fifth Republic, seeks to know where we come from in order to understand what has happened to us.
He invites us on a journey to the France of yesteryear, the France of the 20th century which he experienced as a journalist, the France of industrial recovery and the triumph of French variety music which made the world sing with Dalida or Bécaud.
And the same nagging question always remains: what is this wonderful country waiting for to wake up?
