After receiving a clandestine message calling for resistance, high school students decided on November 11, 1940, to resist the German occupation by imposing three rules on themselves:
Never do an action with more than three people.
Never involve the high school or the drama group.
And above all, to continue living.
“Twenty years ago, when I created this show, I would never have imagined that the world would darken to the point of resembling the description Michel Agnelet gave me of his thirteenth year in 1940. ‘Be careful,’ Michel told me, ‘the Beast is not dead. Children must register at the library, read, they must learn how to learn.’”
He was right.
