Souvenirs d’un jeune homme

In 1987, the year of his death, Jean Anouilh published La Vicomtesse d'Éristal n'a pas reçu son balai mécanique (The Vicomtesse of Éristal Did Not Receive Her Mechanical Broom). With this collection, subtitled Souvenirs d'un jeune homme (Souvenirs of a Young Man), Jean Anouilh takes a tender and amused look at his early days as a penniless author and plunges the reader into a world of advertising executives searching for slogans and household appliances! Then came the war, cinema, and finally, of course, the theater.

In this show, in the form of a free and joyful confession which mixes thoughts taken from the collection En marge du théâtre, Anouilh reveals his youth to us – a youth punctuated by crazy encounters, where each anecdote becomes the subject of comedy.
