Divers lieux Divers lieux 84000 Avignon
Exhibition
From June 28, 2025 to January 4, 2026, Jean-Michel Othoniel will deploy a gigantic artistic constellation in the city of the popes, with Love as the celestial vault.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its designation as European Capital of Culture and the 30th anniversary of its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the city of Avignon has entrusted an enchanting artist with the task of investing its emblematic sites and museums, in order to reveal their richness and uniqueness.

A major event, the largest project ever conceived by the sculptor.
With this exceptional exhibition, spread across 10 unique locations, Jean-Michel Othoniel will present 260 works for Avignon.

It will take over the Palais des Papes, the Pont d'Avignon, the Petit Palais–Louvre Museum in Avignon, the Calvet Museum, the Requien Museum, the Lapidary Museum, the Sainte-Claire Convent, the Pommer Baths, the Lambert Collection and the Place du Palais.

The exhibition "OTHONIEL COSMOS or the Ghosts of Love" draws a gigantic monumental journey which populates the free institutions and historic sites of the city.
The artist has created works that will be revealed from one place to another, crossing sculpture and painting, bricks and pearls, astrolabes and fountains, gold and glass, totems and infinite knots. Structured around the passion of love, this exhibition, like no other, is orchestrated like a great operatic machine, with, as a highlight at the beginning of August, an installation and a performance in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes, specially choreographed by Carolyn Carlson for Hugo Marchand and Caroline Osmont.
