Musics for a while
Théâtre du Balcon 38, rue Guillaume Puy 84000 Avignon
A bold musical dialogue, where the baroque becomes contemporary under the notes of Ensemble 44.
More than three centuries separate us from the era of Henry Purcell, a major figure in English music whose works, which have become veritable hits, have been constantly reinvented, from Baroque ensembles to pop artists. Sensitive to the modernity of his writing, composer Élisabeth Angot brings together several of the composer's famous arias, which she has rearranged for Ensemble 44, and her own compositions. In this concert for soprano, tenor, and six conducted instrumentalists, the voice plays a central role, becoming by turns contemplative, intensely strained, joyful, or mysterious.
