Mariage avec un Escabeau
Théâtre Au Chapeau Rouge 34-36 Rue du Chapeau Rouge 84000 Avignon
Life is like a great play. We play roles, we improvise, we search for meaning. A woman alone on stage. She asks herself questions: is she the one who decides, or is everything already written?
Every choice, every hesitation, feels like a reply. Saying "yes" or "no" can change everything. She moves forward in her doubts, searching for the right direction.
Then, a stepladder enters her life. Just a banal object, an everyday thing. But little by little, under her gaze, it becomes a scene partner, a confidant, an unexpected companion. She talks to it, confides her thoughts, leans on it, as if, somehow, it could answer. The stepladder becomes a mirror of her solitude, a presence that helps her see more clearly.
Like all women, she juggles several roles: wife, lover, mother... And yet, she seeks to understand who she truly is. Because love transforms a woman, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. It can elevate her, reveal her to herself, but also wound her, mark her body and mind, impose an imprint on her that she will have to learn to bear. And when love gives life, her body changes again, carrying within it a visible and profound transformation.
This play is about solitude, imagination, and choice. It mixes seriousness and laughter, reality and the absurd, to make us reflect on our surroundings. And above all, it's a true comedy: a play where there's a lot of laughter, where absurd situations offer a moment of lightness and pleasure. After all, who would have thought that a stepladder could become the best partner?
Inspired by the collection "Son Papillon de Nuit" by Gabrielle Fabre, this story gives a voice to women who, in the shadows, suffer the law of the strongest. It invites us to see solitude as a space where we can rebuild ourselves, reinvent our place, and perhaps, reclaim our own role.
