Théâtre Transversal 10 rue d'Amphoux 84000 Avignon
Vera, fourteen years old. A teenager standing on a street corner, sound processors in her ears. Deaf but receptive like no other to the sounds of the world.
Her song rises like a cry, questioning the boundaries of normality and the categories assigned from a very young age. In the same breath, Vera plunges into herself and into the hearts of others. Sheltered by her thoughts but overexposed by her words, she learns to accept being different.
This text is a way of questioning how we view those who are different from us. More broadly, it denounces the vast social machine that manufactures fixed identities, a machine that is currently operating at full capacity. It echoes the struggles of many deaf people to ensure that their difference is no longer seen as a handicap, a deficiency, but simply as a difference that can have its place in society.
