L’illusion Comique
Théâtre Benoit XII 12 rue des Teinturiers 84000 Avignon
A play of such modernity that it cannot fail to resonate with today's audiences: the conflict of generations, love, commitment, the assertion of female will…
A show where the alexandrines are scrupulously respected, and even sometimes sung, and where we will discover that Corneille invented cinema 270 years before Méliès.
Despairing over the disappearance ten years earlier of his son Clindor (who, mistreated by his father, ran away), Pridamant consults the magician Alcandre, hoping he will reveal his fate. Alcandre offers to show him, in the form of animated figures, what his son's life had been like since leaving his father's home. A life that could not have been more eventful…
Corneille was 29 years old when he wrote L'Illusion comique, undoubtedly one of the most brilliant plays in his theatrical production – which, far from being limited to the tragedies for which the author is essentially known today, also presents a fine range of comedies.
