L’Histoire du soldat
La Scala Provence 3 rue Pourquery de Boisserin 84000 Avignon
On his way back to his family, a penniless soldier meets the Devil who offers him a strange deal: to give up his violin in exchange for a book capable of bringing him wealth and power.
With the pact sealed, the soldier discovers that he has lost several years of his life and that nothing and no one awaits him. Having become rich but profoundly alone, he will have only one goal from then on: to take up his violin again, even if it means defying the Devil himself.
Composed in the midst of the war, L'Histoire du soldat adopted the form of traveling theater in a reduced formation designed for the road. Stravinsky brilliantly blends the popular rhythms of his time – tango, ragtime, jazz, paso doble – and offers a work as inventive as it is demanding, embodied here by Rodolphe Menguy and Bertrand de Roffignac.
