les Rendez-vous du Chêne Philosophie – André Comte-Sponville
Théâtre du Chêne Noir 8 bis, rue Sainte Catherine 84000 Avignon
André Comte-Sponville is one of the best-known contemporary French philosophers. After the success of his book Petit Traité des grandes vertus in 1995, he left university teaching to devote himself to writing and giving lectures.
His journey led him to explore psychoanalysis, meditation, and the great traditions of Eastern wisdom. His thinking draws inspiration from Epicurus, the Stoics, Michel de Montaigne, and Baruch Spinoza.
Comte-Sponville seeks to answer universal questions: How to live happily? How to be free? How to find meaning in life without religion? He develops an ethic based on human virtues such as loyalty, courage, generosity, and tolerance. His philosophy invites everyone to accept reality as it is, while striving to live more lucidly, more freely, and more happily.
Key idea: for André Comte-Sponville, wisdom does not consist of fleeing the world, but of learning to live fully in the present, with lucidity, without illusion and with respect for others.
