Les clés du Festival, l’aventure du Festival d’Avignon des origines à nos jours
Maison Jean Vilar 8 rue de Mons Montée Paul Puaux 84000 Avignon
Through an immersive scenography bringing together nearly a thousand documents and archives from the Maison Jean Vilar and the collections of the BnF, the first permanent exhibition at the Maison Jean Vilar invites you to experience the adventure of the Avignon Festival.
The Keys to the Festival reveals the history of the Festival from 1947 to the present day, exploring its fundamentals: the festival's origins, a festival of artists and creation, a festival and its audience, a festival that mirrors the world, Avignon Ville festival, the Festival Off, the making of the Festival.
The first floor of the Maison Jean Vilar (a total surface area of 350 m²) is dotted with iconic pieces, significant testimonies, renewed sources, and artistic and human stories.
This exhibition immerses the viewer in the creations that have made the Festival's highlights: from Jean Vilar's Prince of Homburg to Peter Brook's Mahabharata, from Thomas Jolly's Thyestes to Caroline Guiela Nguyen's Saigon, and the creations of Thomas Ostermeier, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Rébecca Chaillon and Angélica Liddell.
At the heart of the project: the public - novice or initiated, tourists or festival-goers - seized by the vibrant force of a very real utopia, of a heritage that is still alive.
By entrusting “the keys to the Festival” to a wide audience, this exhibition aims to extend the founding gesture of Jean Vilar and the Théâtre Populaire: for everyone.
Guided tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 14:15 p.m. > reservation recommended
Prices: 8 € / 5 €
