Le menteur

After studying in Poitiers, Dorante returns to Paris, determined to enjoy the pleasures of the capital. Accompanied by his valet, he meets two strangers at the Tuileries and, to seduce them, invents a military career. Dorante lies as he breathes, but the beauties are not short of deception. From tragedy to comedy, Corneille's theater emphasizes the importance of women. If Dorante lies purely out of boasting, or even to embellish his life, Lucrezia and Clarice will, thanks to lies, invent a stratagem to achieve their ends. Beyond morality, these young people draw us into a spiral of misunderstandings and diabolical twists.
