La violence politique en Vaucluse au XIXe siècle
Memento, Pôle des patrimoines de Vaucluse 230 rue Marcel Demonque 84140 Avignon
Political violence is a current topic in France.
This conference aims to give it historical depth by taking the example of Provence in the 19th century, which is the subject of a dossier in issue 279 of Provence historique.
To understand a context marked by the conflictual rise of republicanism, several approaches are preferred: biographical around great republican figures, such as Gambetta in Cavaillon, event-based with the study of Bonapartist repression and memorial, because the long time of political violence spills over into the time of the return to civil peace.
