La leçon
Théâtre du Chêne Noir 8 bis, rue Sainte Catherine 84000 Avignon
When language becomes an instrument of domination, what can happen but the worst? Robin Renucci brings to the stage the modernity of Ionesco's text and his violently comic and dramatic theatre.
How can we share knowledge and create a desire to learn? It was primarily the notion of transmission that led Robin Renucci to revive The Lesson. In this text, written in 1950, knowledge is imposed. A teacher receives a student. He, writes Ionesco, is initially "excessively polite and very shy," while she is "very lively, cheerful, and dynamic." But as he questions her about geography, arithmetic, and linguistics, the man enters into a linguistic delirium that becomes an instrument of torture. The young girl is objectified, manipulated, abused, and ultimately destroyed.
