Married at 13, from the black ghetto of Missouri, young Josephine arrived in France and became an icon of Parisian high society during the Roaring Twenties. She joined the Resistance and came to symbolize the great universal woman recently celebrated in the Pantheon…
"Josephine Baker the musical" allows us to rediscover the dazzling artist with extraordinary talents as a dancer and singer, a precursor of hip hop.
This show also reveals the extraordinary life of this free-spirited and committed woman. We encounter her partners (Gabin), her lovers (Paul Colin, Pépito), her husbands (Willie Baker, Jo Bouillon), and heroes like herself who didn't hesitate to risk their lives to save Jews and thwart the Nazis' plans. She campaigned throughout her life against racial segregation, joining Martin Luther King Jr. and adopting 12 children of diverse backgrounds to create her rainbow family.
Beautiful choreographed scenes in flamboyant period costumes!
