Jazz Story #1 – L’art du trio, vol. 1

A special evening during which listeners/spectators are invited to participate in a little game which consists of identifying one (or more) musicians by listening to a recording alone.
A blindfolded quiz to test your knowledge. A prize will be awarded to the best among you. Today's theme: the tenor saxophone.
A staple throughout jazz history, the trio format has primarily emerged with the piano/bass/drums formula—the familiar rhythm section of larger ensembles. However, many other three-piece instrumental configurations have been explored, and it is these that we will be highlighting. On the program for this first session are trios by Johnny Dodds, Lil Hardin, Joe Venuti, Eddie Lang, Lovie Austin, Mary Lou Williams, Lester Young, Nat King Cole, Benny Goodman, and several others.
Jazz Stories are talks led by Jean-Paul Ricard and Bruno Levée, featuring original vinyl records. A chance to share and listen for all jazz and vinyl enthusiasts. A potluck-style aperitif is offered before the talk, at 18 pm.
