Histoire de la communauté juive d'Avignon
Départ : place du Palais des Papes 84000 Avignon
Avignon Tourism invites you to discover the history of the city's Jewish community through a guided tour.
Present in Provence since the 4th century AD, the Jewish community plays an essential role in the history of our city.
Initially settled in the Balance district, and later in the quarry near the Saint Pierre parish, the Jews were protected by the Avignon popes but had to comply with restrictive rules.
Emancipated during the French Revolution, persecuted during the Occupation, they now constitute a community of 600 families, a mosaic of different histories and origins, and have inscribed their presence in the destiny of Avignon.
This new visit will allow you to trace their history through the centuries, to discover their heritage and traditions.
Duration: 2 hour
IH: The visit is not accessible to people with reduced mobility due to the steps in the synagogue.
