Through borrowed works and others selected from the museum's collections, let's rediscover how Villeneuve lez Avignon and its iconic monuments have inspired artists from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
A medieval town linked to the Rhône River, the papacy, and the kings of France, Villeneuve developed from the 10th century onwards around the Abbey of Saint-André. Its exceptional heritage, both secular (Fort Saint-André and the Philippe-le-Bel Tower) and religious (the abbey, the Carthusian monastery, the Collegiate Church, and the Chapel of the Grey Penitents), has inspired many artists. Thanks to loans and a selection of works from the collections, let's rediscover Villeneuve through the eyes of painters.
