Exposition «Metamorphosis»
Abbaye Saint-André, Montée du Fort 30400 Villeneuve-lez-Avignon
Saint-André Abbey presents the exhibition "Metamorphosis", by the Italian photographer and journalist, Alessandro Calvi.
His photographs depict nature untouched by tourism, preserving its beauty intact.
After a stroll through Gustave Fayet's "imaginary gardens," the Saint-André Abbey invites the public to pause and contemplate the landscapes of Italian photographer Alessandro Calvi. Unveiled to the public for the first time from August 5 to October 31, 2026, in the "Metamorphosis" exhibition, these fifty or so prints invite us to discover, at first glance, a smooth and serene nature devoid of human presence. Yet, the photographer, who is also a journalist, conducted research before capturing these dreamlike Italian landscapes: "What I seek to show through my photographs is the interaction between human activity and nature in the construction of the Italian landscape," he explains.
Often, the invisible hand of humankind has left its mark, shaping and ordering nature to conform to human aesthetic or practical needs. It is up to the viewer to become aware of the issues at play within these idealized landscapes, such as those of Tuscany and its winding, romantic roads.
