Born in Héricourt in Haute-Saône, the painter and poet Roger Lorance, after a few years spent in Orange and a stint in Germany, settled with his parents in 1947 in Villeneuve lez AvignonThere he discovered The Coronation of the Virgin by Enguerrand Carton at the Pierre-de-Luxembourg Museum: his desire to paint was born.
