Inspired by the altarpiece of the Coronation of the Virgin by Enguerrand Quarton, the vivid and abundant works of Roger Lorance, painter of art brut, are inhabited by demons, divinities and other colorful hallucinations.
Born in Héricourt in Haute-Saône, the painter and poet Roger Lorance, after a few years spent in Orange and a stint in Germany, settled with his parents in 1947 in Villeneuve lez AvignonThere he discovered The Coronation of the Virgin by Enguerrand Carton at the Pierre-de-Luxembourg Museum: his desire to paint was born.
In his works, full of life and color, demons, divinities and hallucinations due to alcoholism intertwine.
