In order to showcase the richness and diversity of the religious heritage of the former papal capital, Avignon Tourism has created a series of guided tours around the churches, chapels, basilicas and synagogues of our city.
These tours are a true historical, architectural, and artistic journey. The various sites have witnessed the city's great historical moments, from the papacy to the Revolution. The churches are also veritable museums, bringing together first-rate paintings, statues, and frescoes.
At the end of this cycle, the sanctuaries of Avignon will no longer hold any secrets for you!
You’ll find here:
– Saturday, October 18 at 14:30 p.m.: Corps Saints district
The first tour takes you from Saint-Martial to Saint-Didier, passing through the Célestins and Cordeliers. You will also discover the Grey Penitents, the Sainte Claire Chapel, and the Saint Didier Church.
Departure: Tourist Office – 41 Cours Jean Jaurès
– Saturday, November 22 at 14:30 p.m.: Banasterie district
The second tour takes you from the Synagogue to evoke the Jews of the Pope and of Comtat Venaissin to the Basilica-metropolis Notre Dame des Doms passing by the chapel of the Visitation, the chapel of the Italian Congregation, the Carmelites and the chapel of the Black Penitents of Banasterie.
Departure: in front of the synagogue – Jerusalem Square.
– Saturday, December 6 at 14:30 p.m.: Vernet district
The final tour takes you from the Chapel of the Jesuit College on Rue de la République to Saint Peter's Basilica, passing by the Oratory, the Templar Chapel/Petit Louvre Theatre, Saint Agricol and Saint Peter.
Duration: 2 hours per visit – capacity limited to 30 people.
Arrive 15 minutes before the start of the tour.
Pets are not allowed.
