Saturday, April 18 at 14 p.m.: Murs-Murs Act 1 (Ramparts Tower)
You walk alongside them, you cross them, but do you really know them? Avignon Tourism invites you on a tour, a tour of the ramparts, to finally get to know this monument so close to our daily lives, yet so rarely noticed. When exactly were they built? Did they serve to defend the city? How many gates did they have in the Middle Ages, and how many gates do they have today? Explore these questions in 2.5 hours and you'll never look at them the same way again.

Saturday, May 9 at 2 p.m.: Murs-Murs Act 14
The "Wall-to-Walls I" tour introduced you to the history of Avignon's walls, gates, and towers. This new tour complements that circuit of the ramparts, starting at the Porte de la République and continuing to the Pont Saint Bénézet via the Porte Saint Lazare and the Quai de la Ligne. Why do we have a broken bridge? What does Quai de la Ligne mean? Who were the Banastiers and the Black Penitents? What was another name for the Porte Saint Lazare? What was the purpose of the sluice gates at the Teinturiers postern?
Wandering between outside and inside the city walls, this walk will reveal the history of some of the city's places and monuments and will introduce you to the defensive systems of the Middle Ages.

Saturday, June 27 at 14 p.m.: Saint-Ruf
In the mid-19th century, the countryside stretched out at the foot of Avignon's ramparts. In 1854, the opening of the railway line between Paris and Marseille, which passed through Avignon, impacted the destiny of the Vaucluse city and irrevocably changed its appearance. From then on, the arrival of new residents led to the rapid urbanization of the areas immediately surrounding the ramparts, around the brand-new train station. The countryside gave way to suburbs that were becoming increasingly urbanized. On the eve of the Second World War, Saint Ruf was one of the most populated districts. From the establishment of the first Christian community, which built the first church dedicated to Saint Ruf, to the restructuring brought about by the creation of the tram line, from Romanesque remains to beautiful Art Deco and Art Nouveau houses, from the chaos of the Second World War bombings to the narrow streets shaded by gardens, let us tell you the story of Saint Ruf and its rich history.
