Crèches et santons
Départ : Office de tourisme 41 cours Jean Jaurès 84000 Avignon
A discovery of Christmas traditions in Provence through the nativity scenes and figurines displayed in various places in the historic center.
Christmas in Provence is the time for santons, which are displayed at fairs and exhibitions: in clay, wood, wax, these colorful little people come to life under the amazed gaze of young and old.
Each nativity scene tells the story of Provence, of a hamlet, a beloved village or the invented story of one's ideal Provençal village: a bridge here, a flock of sheep there, a mill, a town hall, the Nativity stable: a whole setting takes place.
