Ce que j'appelle l'oubli
Théâtre Transversal 10 rue d'Amphoux 84000 Avignon
A remarkable plea against the absurdity of violence, What I Call Oblivion brings forth the memory of a defenseless man killed for nothing.
A man walked into a supermarket, grabbed a can of soda, and drank it. Four security guards rushed in, took him to the back room, out of sight, away from everyone, and beat him to death. Another man speaks. He speaks of the attack, of the perpetrators' sense of impunity. He also speaks of the prosecutor and his closing argument. And then of everything else, of all that surrounds him and that will continue without him, the dead man. He speaks to grasp the mechanisms and understand the origins of this gratuitous violence. To speak so that we, in turn, can enter the victim's mind, sharing both his memories and his final moments. To speak of his last breath, of the fragility of it all, in a world where omnipotence is the norm.
The proposal by the company Il va sans dire brings out all the luminous and desperate force of this story which appeals to our humanity.
